Riding

All Asbury Police Mounts are trained in both English and Western tack. Asbury mounts are put under saddle at the age of 2 years old. The horses are taught to respond to leg pressure and seat position. The trainer focuses on teaching the horse to respond to light cues and collect at the walk, trot, and canter. The trainers and horses strive for a superb level of equitation. At three to four years old, the horse begins training in arena and cross country jumping. Asbury Police Mounts are trained using a variety of over, under, and through obstacles. The horses are ridden in parades and in town to desensitize to city life. The horses at age 2-3 are ridden in exhibition at the Kentucky Horse Park Police Horse Colloquium.
